DIGITAL HUMANITIES – STUDYING TEXT, IMAGE, AND SOUND

Date: 26-27 November 2015

Venue: Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and “Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre” Centre, Lublin

Digital humanities is currently among the most dynamically growing disciplines of academic research, which has already developed numerous innovative tools and methods enabling the exploration of contemporary digital culture as well as the and digitized past.

Digital humanities has revolutionized the tools and workflows in contemporary humanities: methodologies, research methods, communication channels, interpretative strategies, and dissemination of results.

The conference aims to create a platform for exchange among those working in the field and promote it among researchers of a more classical disposition. In particular, it will focus on such areas as

1. tools in digital humanities
2. research methodologies
3. theory of/in digital humanities
4. practical applications and projects
5. humanities education in the digital era.

The second day of the conference will be devoted to a series of workshops (RemixLab) focused on tools and applications used in digital humanities. The workshops will be conducted by accomplished practitioners from Poland.

Live streaming and English interpretation will be available for all plenary roundtables and paper sessions.

The conference program will include a panel discussion on the development of digital humanities in Poland and the collaborative writing of a Polish Wikipedia entry dedicated to digital humanities.

A peer-reviewed e-book publication and accompanying video material are planned.

Proposals and abstracts will be refereed by the Conference Advisory Board. All participants will be encouraged to sign up for relevant workshops, the list of which will be published on the conference website in early September.
